As the story begins, the art restorer and occasional Israeli agent — Gabriel Allon is sent to Zurich, Switzerland, to restore the painting of a reclusive millionaire banker, Augustus Rolfe. But he arrives to find the banker murdered and fears that his former profession will implicate him in the homicide. He flees the crime scene but is arrested as he tries to exit the country. The rank of his questioners increases until he faces Gerhardt Peterson, the second-in-command of Switzerland’s internal security department. Peterson ignores Gabriel’s assertion of innocence, accuses him for the murder of the deceased banker.

After being released and warned never to return to Switzerland, his Israeli handler reveals the true reason Allon was chosen to make contact with the banker. Rolfe was a member of a highly secret organization that had collaborated with the Nazis years ago to steal millions in valuable artwork from their occupied countries. And for some reason, just prior to his murder, Rolfe had contacted the Israelis requesting a secret meeting. As Allon begins his investigation to uncover the reason for Rolfe’s phone call, the mystery takes him to a remote country house where Rolfe’s daughter, Anna leads an unhappy life.

Anna Rolfe is both empathetic and mysterious, not revealing herself much, but portray the image of a woman who has been scarred by life but refuses to succumb completely. Alienated from her father, she was also lavatory to secrets that will lead her and Allon on a chilling journey through Europe and ultimately back to Switzerland to unravel the truth behind her father’s final legacy. Did Allon track out the killer?

She always has a lot of fun doing her research. Her hobbies include singing in the local choir, shopping and watching television.

Love Letters by Katie Fforde is a book having fascinating background and some marvelous scenes between rival authors. The main character is Laura — the heroine who is a university educated, innocent 26 year old teen working in a book store. Her wardrobe is full of black skirts and trousers, white blouses and flat shoes. Unfortunately, she is about to lose her job in a bookshop but new opportunities are opening up for her and she is asked to help organize a literary and music festival. She doesn’t have much confidence in her own abilities, but she soon finds out her confidence grows from doing new things.

As the story moves, Laura travels to Ireland to try and convince the reclusive and enigmatic Dermott Flynn to appear for the festival as a guest. Dermot is a sexy hero and as the story progresses, Laura falls in love with Dermot. But, Dermot is a maddening, temperamental and up to his ears in a nasty case of writer’s block. So the riotous relationship between the pair, both professional and personal rises out in the tale. Did Katie win in her love?

As per the story narration, Dermot Flynn is the potential star attraction that the author must bring on plot to make it a success. It is amazing as the novel progresses how Katie portrays the literary and non literary authors.

When the fishing vessel, ‘La Conte’ sinks suddenly at night in one-hundred-mile-per-hour winds and record ninety-foot seas during a savage storm in January 1998, her five crewmen are left to drift without a life raft in the freezing Alaskan waters and survive as best they can.

One hundred and fifty miles away, in Sitka, Alaska, a H-60 Jayhawk helicopter lifts off from America’s most remote Coast Guard base in the hope of tracking down an anonymous Mayday signal. A fisherman’s worst nightmare has become a Coast Guard crew’s desperate mission. As the crew of the ‘La Conte’ begin to die one by one, those sworn to watch over them risk everything to pull off the rescue of the century.

In ‘Coming Back Alive‘, Spike Walker has crafted a gripping story of intense human drama. He leads you to the geography, history and people of the Alaskan fishing harbours, describes seven hours of extreme storm devastation and paints a unique portrait of the US Coast Guard’s search and rescue helicopter squads.

The heroic efforts of the Coast Guards in carrying out 50,000 search and rescue missions each year may not have been widely known, but in this internationally read book, their skill and courage are graphically illustrated as they risk life and limb to achieve a miracle rescue.

With his meticulous research, Walker weaves the narrative through eyewitness and survivors accounts and unemotionally reports the gruesome facts in all their harrowing details.

In the preface to his absorbing story Walker concludes:

“While some of the material herein is guite graphic in nature, it is my fervent hope that by writing about these events, similar predicaments in which young men die may be avoided altogether in the future, and that the soul-shaking grief and sense of utter aloneness felt by those left behind may one day be transcended.”

He also quotes an old Coast Guard saying:

“You have to go out, but you don’t necessarily have to come back.”

A brilliant work, loaded with adventure and suspense, a definitive guide to the perilous sea and the men who risk their lives to triumph over it.

The Author.

Spike Walker spent nine seasons as a crewman aboard some of the most successful crab boats in the Alaskan fleet. In addition to his crab-fishing experience, he has worked in the offshore oilfields of Louisiana and Texas, along the Mississippi River as a certified, commercial deep-sea diver, and in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Alaska as a logger.

His other published works are: ‘Working on the Edge‘, a memoir of his years as a deckhand in Alaska, and ‘Nights of Ice‘.

But it was his masterpiece, ‘Coming Back Alive’, published in 2001, that raised him to international stardom. His acclaimed book was a huge bestseller and an important addition to the literature of the sea.

…………………………………………….

Another ‘Epic Sea Book’ is ‘THE CRYING SEA’ by Paddy Cummins.

Inspired by a true sea tragedy that occurred of the coast of Malta in 2008, it is a suspense-packed saga of harrowing human drama.

A superb read… A story that will remain with you forever.”

When NASA conducted manned moon landing missions in the 1960s, a series of space programs operated in haste with hopes of spurring advances in areas of rocketry and manned spaceflight. Self-published author Arthur Nussberger gives us an in-depth visual of that era and what life was like in the Aerospace Industry.

Manned Space Projects – Apollo to Space Stations is a unique book of illustrations from the Space Station programs to Apollo 11. It evaluates the system of a Satellite Power, discusses the design of the Global Positioning Satellite and brings the story to life with colorful photographs.

This Xlibris release is an aerospace aficionado’s dream come true as each photo tells a story that we can only see in this self-published book and not in outer space.

Surfing Books are one of the most essential tools to introduce a child to the magic of surfing. At their age, children are attracted to colors and motions. Thus children who have either accompanied their parents to a surfing trip or watched the sport of surfing on television are naturally attracted to this activity.

In order to step-up their interest in this activity, it is best to gift children with surfing books that are written specially according to their needs. These books contain all the basic information relating to the ocean and surfing in the form of stories and cartoons, thus making it easily comprehendible for them. These children books are an ideal gift to children whose parents are themselves enthusiastic about surfing.

One of the main advantages of these kids books is that they impart knowledge about the ocean in a story and picture format. Ocean is a fascinating place for kids, but what they are not aware of is the fact that it can turn dangerous the moment they become careless. Thus having the basic knowledge bout the ocean and its dangers enables children to use care and precaution while enjoying the ocean.

Harry the bear is one cartoon character that has become quite famous through these children books. Harry the bear is a fictional character who can surf and skateboard. Different editions of his books depict him being involved in some situation and the way he gets out of that situation using his logical and systematic thinking. Thus, Harry the bear has captured the imagination of numerous children all over the world. He has imparted basic safety techniques to follow while playing in the ocean, thus enabling children to act in a safe manner.

Apart from informing children about ocean safety, these kids books also conveys messages regarding friendship, team building, mutual respect, etc thus assisting in the overall growth of the child.

It is due to the above mentioned reasons why these surfing books have become a popular gift to children. Not only children, even the parents enjoy reading these books due to their simple and precise nature. Reading these books together creates greater bonding between parents and children and enables them to go surfing together. These children books are easily available at major book shops. They are even available with numerous online book stores, who can deliver these books to your doorsteps, thus making it easy and convenient for you to enjoy them.
